Bitcoin Red Team Founder Turns to Chinese AI After Explosive Findings
Bitcoin Red Team co-founder Rob Hamilton said August 9 that he had begun integrating OpenAI’s trust cyber program into the group’s security work before access was restricted during further analysis of a codebase already under responsible disclosure. The setback pushed the team back toward Chinese open-weight AI models to continue Bitcoin security testing.

Hamilton’s Red Team has been using models including Kimi K3 to examine Bitcoin-related software for vulnerabilities, with earlier work uncovering multiple serious issues across the ecosystem. He has argued that open-weight models materially changed what small security teams can accomplish, making unrestricted AI access increasingly important for offensive code review and vulnerability discovery.
